'Obama presidency has harmed Israel,' says Israeli official

Former Israeli Ambassador to the UN Dan Gillerman firmly stated last week that Barack Obama's time in the White House has caused great harm to Israel.

At a time when libelous accusations and efforts to delegitimize Israel are peaking, Obama's "weakness" has meant that "Israel has to keep apologizing for itself all the time," Gillerman said during a panel discussion at the annual Women's International Zionist Organization (WIZO) conference in Tel Aviv.

"We shouldn't have to be on the defensive," Gillerman added.

Gillerman went on to note that the ongoing turmoil and regime changes in the Middle East were all the more reason to replace Obama with a stronger president in the upcoming US presidential election. Israeli officials have been critical of Obama's response and approach to the takeover by forces such as the Muslim Brotherhood, which they have labeled as everything from lackadaisical to appeasing.

Obama has been far more unpopular with average Israelis than any US president before him. Most Israelis believe Obama wants them to take unreasonable risks for peace with the Palestinians, and that in the event of a major attack on Israel, Obama would abandon the US commitment to defend the Jewish state.

Recent demolitions of outposts are part of psychological warfare to prepare the public for mass expulsions, warns a Yesha leader.

Sarah Eliyash, deputy chairman of the Council of Jewish Communities in Judea and Samaria (Yesha), said she is calling for an urgent conference of Yesha leaders to break off relations with the government as a response to the recent wave of demolitions of Jewish homes and the expulsion of families, including women and babies, in the middle of the night.

“We plan to break off all contact with Cabinet ministers and Knesset Members, the army and the Civil Lands Administration” as a response to the expulsions, she said. “We cannot give legitimacy to this absurd situation.”

Eliyash explained, “In the past few weeks, we have experienced a series of violent expulsions, and no one has reacted to it. The accumulative psychological effect is very dangerous and creates a norm that is accepted by the general public.

“We know that psychologists helped plan how to execute the expulsion of residents of Gush Katif [in 2005], and it is more than probable that the recent expulsions are a prelude to make it acceptable to the general public to abandon us.”

She compared what she called “barbaric vandalism” by the police and hired Arabs, evidenced by several videos, with Egypt during the regime of Hosni Mubarak.

The Netanyahu government’s promises, if accepted by the Palestinian Authority, would result in the expulsions of more than 100,000 Jews in large communities, some of them numbering well over 1,000 families, throughout Judea and Samaria.

Deputy Knesset Speaker MK Danny Danon (Likud) has announced a new campaign to prevent Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s plan to guarantee Defense Minister Ehud Barak and the members of his Independence Party a spot on the Likud list for the next elections.

Danon’s move comes amid reports that Netanyahu is pressing for a reform of the internal elections process in the party that would make it possible to set aside four spots in the list for external candidates. The general consensus among observers is that this step is meant to allow Barak to receive high placement in the list’s “top ten.”

The other spots may be intended for Barak’s cohorts in the Independence faction, including Minister Shalom Simchon. The faction broke off from the Labor party a year ago, when Barak realized that he could face a mutiny within the party if he continued to sit in the Likud-led coalition.

“I have been running a campaign against the idea of guaranteeing Barak a spot on the Likud list for several weeks, and the support I’ve received is sweeping and unequivocal,” Danon told Arutz Sheva, adding he has been signing Knesset members to a petition on the issue. “Barak is a burden to the Likud and not an asset,” he emphasized.

Several Likud members have already expressed their reservations about the issue, including MK Tzipi Hotovely, who said earlier this week that she would take steps to prevent this plan from materializing.

Deputy Prime Minister Moshe Yaa’lon has also been revealed as being sharply opposed to the idea.

In a heated discussion among senior Likud officials this week, Ya’alon said, “Is he really an electoral asset? I think he is an electoral liability.”

He added, “Including [Barak and his cohorts] would set up an internal competition” between the Likud’s ideology and policies, and Barak’s. “Do we really need to guarantee positions in the party list for people who are diametrically opposed to our ideas,” Ya'alon said.

Netanyahu has denied the reports he promised Barak a designated spot on the Likud list, but Danon has already announced his candidacy for president of the Likud Conference and has made it clear that his central goal is to prevent the move.

“Barak is a Trojan horse that would try to harm the values of the Likud,” he said. “Guaranteeing him a spot on the list is not an option. A man who follows the Oslo Accords and the values of the Labor Party cannot be part of the legacy of Jabotinsky and Menachem Begin.”

Recent polls have predicted that if the Independence faction runs on its own, it would not make it into the 19th Knesset.

The European Union has offered to host the next meeting of the so-called Istanbul Process, an aggressive effort by Muslim countries to make it an international crime to criticize Islam.

The announcement comes less than one month after the United States hosted its own Istanbul Process conference in Washington, DC.

The Istanbul Process – its explicit aim is to enshrine in international law a global ban on all critical scrutiny of Islam and/or Islamic Sharia law – is being spearheaded by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), a bloc of 57 Muslim countries.

Based in Saudi Arabia, the OIC has long pressed the European Union and the United States to impose limits on free speech and expression about Islam.

But the OIC has now redoubled its efforts and is engaged in a determined diplomatic offensive to persuade Western democracies to implement United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC) Resolution 16/18, which calls on all countries to combat “intolerance, negative stereotyping and stigmatization of … religion and belief.” (Analysis of the OIC’s war on free speech can be found here and here.)

Resolution 16/18, which was adopted at HRC headquarters in Geneva in March 2011, is widely viewed as a significant step forward in OIC efforts to advance the international legal concept of defaming Islam.

However, the HRC resolution – as well as the OIC-sponsored Resolution 66/167, which was quietly approved by the 193-member UN General Assembly on December 19, 2011 – remains ineffectual as long as it lacks strong support in the West.

The OIC therefore scored a diplomatic coup when the Obama Administration agreed to host a three-day Istanbul Process conference in Washington, DC on December 12-14, 2011. In doing so, the United States gave the OIC the political legitimacy it has been seeking to globalize its initiative to ban criticism of Islam.

Following the Obama Administration’s lead, the European Union now wants to get in on the action by hosting the next Istanbul Process summit, tentatively scheduled for July 2012.

Up until now, the European Union has kept the OIC initiative at arms-length. But Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, Secretary-General of the OIC, says the EU’s offer to host the meeting represents a “qualitative shift in action against the phenomenon of Islamophobia,” according to the International Islamic News Agency (IINA), the OIC’s official news/propaganda organ.

According to the IINA, “The phenomenon of Islamophobia is found in the West in general, but is growing in European countries in particular and in a manner different than that in the US, which had contributed to drafting Resolution 16/18. The new European position represents the beginning of the shift from their previous reserve over the years over the attempts by the OIC to counter ‘defamation of religions’ in the Human Rights Council and the General Assembly of the United Nations.

The Land-for-Peace Hoax | Bible Prophecy Blog

The Land-for-Peace Hoax | Bible Prophecy Blog

Indeed the land-for-peace formula will be exposed as a twofold fiction. First, it is based on the false proposition that the peace process is a two-way street. Israel gives land, the Arabs give peace. But the inevitable death of the Egyptian-Israeli peace accord under an Egyptian jihadist regime makes clear that the land-for-peace formula is a one-way street. Israeli land giveaways are permanent. Arab commitments to peace can be revoked at any time.

Then there are the supposedly iron-clad US and European security guarantees that accompany signed treaties. All the American and European promises to Israel—that they will stand by the Jewish state when it takes risks for peace—will be exposed as worthless lies. As we are already seeing today, no one will stand up for Israel's rights. No one will insist that the Egyptians honor their bargain.

My first remark on this blog

If Israel is a Jewish state, why are their Arabs in the Knesset, government departments, the judiciary? How can they decide fairly when it comes to Jews and especially settlers and other nationalists?
